Does your vehicle need to be registered once a new battery is installed?

Most of the newer European vehicles require battery registration, and if not performed and properly done will allow the vehicles charging system to overcharge the new battery. As a battery ages it builds up internal resistance which creates strain on the vehicles charging system. In their wisdom the engineers designed the computers charging system to counteract this resistance by allowing the charging system to charge at a higher voltage. It’s not by much, just a few tenths of a volt, but if the battery registration is not properly reset, the vehicle will continue to charge at the higher voltage, and consequently damaging the new battery.
